How Consistent ASO Optimization Delivers Results: From Zero to TOP-1

Our case in the Sport, Lifestyle category on the App Store demonstrates that a consistent and systematic approach to ASO optimization not only improves app visibility but also helps achieve top positions in the search results. In this case, we’ll walk you through how, in 8 months, we conducted 8 iterations and successfully moved the app to TOP-1 in its category.

Initial Conditions

At the start, the metadata in en-US was correctly filled, and the only additional locale used was Mexico.

Iteration 1: Building the Foundation for Scaling

  • Conducted semantic research.
  • Adjusted metadata in the additional locale (Mexico).
  • Identified the main relevant cohorts of keywords.

Iterations 2-3: Expanding Reach

  • Filled in new additional locales.
  • Expanded the semantic core.

At this stage, we focused on promoting specific keyword cohorts in each additional locale, which helped speed up position growth.

Iterations 4-6: Working with Relevance

  • Analyzed the ranking dynamics of keywords.
  • Some additional locales showing growth in their own regions were consolidated under specific keyword cohorts.

At this stage, we also tested visual metadata and launched In-App Events with carefully crafted metadata, focusing on the key queries that were priorities for us. These activities not only increased user engagement but also provided a boost in indexing, strengthening positions for our target keywords.

Iterations 7-8: Consolidating the Result and Reaching TOP-1

  • Made targeted changes, identifying ineffective keywords.
  • Strengthened the most relevant and traffic-driving queries.
  • Focused on maintaining top positions.

In the UK, we conducted 5 iterations and brought 33 relevant keywords to TOP-1. To increase rankings, we made precise adjustments and focused on pushing specific keyword queries, primarily in their exact match form.

Outcome

Thanks to the consistent work on ASO optimization, semantic analysis, and proper distribution of keywords across additional locales, we successfully moved the most relevant and traffic-driving keywords to TOP-1.
